Dave Grohl is the Hero We All Need
While the majority of the world has pretty much been shut down for the past month, many musicians are finding various ways to still connect with their fans via social media. There have been countless living room concerts, Instagram Lives, and new songs released over the past few weeks, but the real hero that we all need right now is Dave Grohl.
Dave Grohl has taken to sharing written anecdotes and experiences from his life on his Instagram, and it has been glorious.
While he’s been posting his stories on the platform Medium, he’s also created his own separate Instagram account for it and everything (@davestruestories!!!).
Eventually, Grohl and Prince got the chance to jam with the rest of Prince’s band to an audience of absolutely zero. While it pains me that there is no evidence of this legendary encounter, I suppose it just illustrates the idea that sometimes life’s most important moments are best left off camera.
Regardless, I look forward to hearing more anecdotal stories about Dave’s life while we’re in quarantine. Check them out at the links below:

Dave Grohl has taken to sharing written anecdotes and experiences from his life on his Instagram, and it has been glorious.

The first story Dave posted to his Instagram account on March 26th was about his love of fireworks, and his mother’s disdain for them. There’s something incredibly humanizing to read the stories that the artist himself has written not only about the experiences he’s had, but about the other people in his life as well.
His second story details his reaction when finding out that the Foo Fighters were going to be playing Ozzfest, alongside a hefty handful of metal bands and artists. Needless to say, it’s an entertaining read to see the wild ride of how nervous Dave was to be playing after Pantera, only to end up becoming friends with the guys in the band, and taking a road trip with Taylor Hawkins to go visit them in Texas.
You’ll have to read it for yourself.
Finally, Dave’s most recent post was about meeting the one, the only, Prince.
He recounts Prince’s choice to cover the Foo’s “Best of You” at the Super Bowl as his “proudest musical achievement”. I haven’t decided which part of the story is more entertaining and ironic, the fact that years earlier, Prince had refused to allow the Foo Fighters to release their cover of “Darling Nikki” or the fact that Dave didn’t even watch the SuperBowl halftime show because he “almost wrote the whole thing off as something that was too good to be true”.
