5 Songs to Listen to Right Now

Need some new music to add to your morning commute playlist? Look no further. Here's some of the songs that I have on repeat at the moment.

1. "Personal Lies" by Djo

Djo is a moniker for actor Joe Keery, who you may recognize as Steve Harrington from Netflix's Stranger Things. While Keery released his debut album twenty twenty in 2019, many of his songs are gaining attention now thanks to the ST season four drop last month. "Personal Lies" sticks out from the rest of the album with its nearly minute-and-a-half long guitar solo that acts as the bridge, effectively straying from the rest of the psychedelic, low-key tracks.

2. "Skin Of My Teeth" by Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato is completely making over their image and foraying into the punk rock scene with the release of "Skin Of My Teeth," off their new album "HOLY FVCK" which is slated to be released on August 19th. Lovato has always had an incredibly powerful voice that is arguably put to better use in the punk/rock genre than in pop music, so I for one am excited that they're finally expanding into the rock universe. "Skin Of My Teeth" references Lovato's stint in rehab and their struggle with drug use, making the track a powerful first release. Hopefully the remainder of the album is just as strong.

3. "Supermodel" by Måneskin

The Italian rock band has skyrocketed to fame since winning the Eurovision Song Contest on behalf of Italy in 2021. They recently performed the track on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in late May, with Jimmy Fallon standing in for bassist Vic DeAngelis, who was absent due to illness. In an interview with NME, front-man Damiano David said that the song is about how people feel when they get home from parties. "'Are they really happy? Are they really enjoying what they're doing?'" Måneskin is set to embark on a European tour in 2023, and will likely release more new music before then.

4. "These Are The Days" by Inhaler

"These Are The Days" is the Irish band's first piece of new music this year. It's been nearly a year since the release of their debut album It Won't Always Be Like This, and this is the first track released from the sessions for their forthcoming second album. The chorus really drives the song with lyrics, "These are, these are the days that follow you home / These are the days that kiss you on your broken nose / These are the days you don't miss being alone." More information on the new album will be released soon, but based on this first track, their second album appears to be just as promising as their first.

5. "Wet Dream" by Wet Leg

Wet Leg has been a relatively underground band, that is until Harry Styles covered their song "Wet Dream" for the BBCRadio1 Live Lounge last month. Although the single was released last year, Wet Leg also included it in their self-titled debut album, released in April. Thanks to Harry Styles, Wet Leg is now receiving the exposure they deserve. Their music is giving pop-punk, Hole-inspired realness mixed with just the right amount of lyrical raunchiness -- which has proved to be the perfect mix. Wet Leg is embarking on their own North American tour from the end of July through October, and will be supporting Styles on his Australian + New Zealand tour in the spring of 2023.
