'Dirty Honey' is the Rock n Roll Revival We've Been Waiting For

Dirty Honey formed in Los Angeles in 2017. The four-piece band consists of singer Marc LaBelle, guitarist John Notto, bassist Justin Smolian, and drummer Corey Coverstone.

Dirty Honey is a band deeply inspired by the roots of 70s and 80s rock n roll mixed with the 90s gritty, grunge sound. Lead singer Marc LaBelle cites Steven Tyler, Chris Cornell, Axl Rose, and Robert Plant as vocal influences.₁ The band has toured with Slash, and also supported Guns n Roses for a few nights during their reunion tour in Las Vegas this past November.

The band recently made headlines when their single, “When I’m Gone” topped Billboard’s mainstream rock chart in the month of October. Remarkable on its own, yes, but even more so when you find out that the band isn’t yet signed to a label. So far, Dirty Honey is the only up-and-coming rock band that has managed to achieve a No. 1 spot on the rock charts while remaining unsigned, and it’s a feat that even Grammy nominated, mega-popular Greta Van Fleet hasn’t managed to pull off.

Both the band and their manager Mark DiDia agree that, without a label, they have more control over the actual music and the direction in which the band is going. That’s not to say that there wasn’t label interest when the band first started, but now, they feel as though they have done nearly all of the groundwork, that there isn’t much left for a label to do but garnish some of their wages and control their touring schedule, and the band isn’t interested in either of those options.₂

And as far as what LaBelle thinks regarding the current state of rock, he says, “I think it was on life support for a while, and there’s a little bit of a revival of the genre right now”₁.
