Inhaler Tackles Their Own Ego in New Single "Falling In"

Inhaler is a four-piece band that hails from Dublin, Ireland. The band is fronted by Elijah Hewson, alternatively known as Bono’s son. (Yes, the Bono. I’m sure Elijah is patiently awaiting the day that doesn’t need to be mentioned.)

After releasing “We Have to Move On” back in January, the band’s production was put on hold due to the coronavirus outbreak, leaving us with a large gap of empty time before they dropped “Falling In” on Wednesday, May 20th.

Neither of the songs lack in meaning. While “We Have to Move On” was punchier and more aggressive, “Falling In” embraces a certain vulnerability about standing on the edge of success.

The song itself tackles the way that your ego can either be your success or your ultimate downfall. In an interview with Radio X, Elijah said, ““I think being a young band on tour and seeing our music connect with audiences from different parts of the world has opened our eyes to the excitement and exhilaration of life … We are just beginning to encounter our own egos and becoming aware that allowing it to be in charge of who you are can be your downfall.”

He also added, “You can cut yourself on its sharp edges and bleed to death if you’re not careful. We want to meet our egos head on, shake their hands and give them a hug. We are not afraid of them… we know we need each other. Your ego can be your friend, but you need your mates to make sure it doesn’t boss you around.”

Though I’m sure Elijah is tired of being compared to his father, his voice sounds remarkably like Bono’s on this track, which for me, is an anecdote that amplifies the experience.

You can keep up with Inhaler on Instagram and keep your eye out for their new LP, releasing soon.
