Listen to Low Island's New EP "Shut Out The Sun"

Low Island is a four-piece band that hails from Oxford, UK. They’re made up of Carlos Posada (vocals, guitar, keys), Jacob Lively (bass), Felix Higginbottom (drums, percussion), and Jamie Jay (vocals, guitar, keys).

Their most recent release was their four-track EP Shut Out the Sun in 2019. While they have managed to concoct a sound that is all their own, their sound is vaguely reminiscent of the art-rock bands that came before them, particularly that of Radiohead and Foals.

“Search Box” is a stand-out on the EP, having been released previously as a single. The song is reminiscent of the Talking Heads circa 1980 - think: “Once in a Lifetime”. The tracks hold a similar energy, as they both deal with themes of feeling lost in your life and questioning yourself.

At the end of the song, Carlos sings:
Is it OK if I never get married?

Is it OK if I never own a house?

Is it OK if I'm not OK?

I don't know what to do with myself
The lyrics speak to the same questions that nearly every young person asks themselves while growing up in the world. The panic can often lead to feeling completely and utterly lost, and somehow, I think that should be okay.
